Chapter 9
PASSAIC COUNTY OPEN SPACE, NATURAL RESOURCE, AND
RECREATION POLICIES
1.
Preserve Critical Water Resource Areas and Watersheds.
2.
Establish, plan, and implement a Greenway Corridors program along
ridgelines and rivers to protect environmental resources and create new passive
recreational opportunities.
3.
Promote the development of new active recreational facilities in
partnership with municipalities for the increasing population and the changing
user groups.
4.
Promote the acquisition of identified priority lands to protect
ecological and environmental values.
5.
Assist in the restoration of existing urban parks and the acquisition and
development of new urban parks.
6.
Develop partnerships for the preservation and management of open space.
7.
Assist in the preservation of land along the First and Second Watchung
Ridge and specifically in the High Mountain Natural Area.
8.
Promote and support the preservation of forestry and timber resources.
9.
Examine opportunities to increase recreational opportunities in the
existing undeveloped county parkland.
10.
Promote and assist in the preservation and restoration of floodplain
areas through the State of New Jersey’s Blue Acres Program.
11.
Promote the development of pedestrian and bike pathways.
12.
Evaluate the use of Brownfields for recreation, independently and in
collaboration with redevelopment.
